Crossed Keys

A concept for a fictional cocktail bar, "Crossed Keys," inspired by the whimsical and meticulously detailed world of Wes Anderson.

Background

Objective

The objective of this project was to create a brand identity for "Crossed Keys," a fictional cocktail bar that draws its inspiration from the distinct visual and narrative style of Wes Anderson's films. Through the design process of the logos and the conceptual development of the bar, the goal was to encapsulate the essence of Anderson's storytelling into every aspect of the brand, from visual elements to the overall ambiance of the establishment.

What I learned

Throughout the project, I learned the importance of cohesive thematic branding, particularly how color palettes, typography, and iconography can converge to evoke a specific emotional response and aesthetic pleasure. The challenge of capturing Anderson's unique style taught me to pay close attention to the nuances of design elements and how they can be used to craft a narrative within a brand.

Logos

The primary logo presents a refined and elegant design, embodying a vintage charm with its classic typeface and the iconic martini glass, complete with a key as a stirrer, that ties back to the name of the cocktail. The blue hue suggests reliability and a high level of service, reminiscent of the storied establishments of the early 20th century. The establishment date adds a touch of heritage, emphasizing the long-standing traditions of cocktail crafting.

The secondary logo exudes a more playful and vibrant charm with its bold, yellow script font. The color choice is warm and inviting, reflective of a welcoming atmosphere where guests can enjoy leisurely concoctions.

Brand Colors + Typeface

The selection of Altesse Std, Rafaella, and Futura PT for a Wes Anderson-inspired project reflects the distinctive blend of elegance, whimsy, and modernism characteristic of his films. Altesse Std brings a classical elegance, mirroring the grand settings often found in Anderson's work. Rafaella adds a touch of whimsy, capturing the unique and endearing personalities that populate his stories. Futura PT introduces modernism with its clean, geometric lines, nodding to Anderson's stylized visuals and symmetrical compositions.

Blushette, a soft, playful pink, invokes the delicate and nuanced storytelling found in Anderson's work, setting a tone of gentle nostalgia and warmth.

Flirtberry, a deeper, more intense pink, adds a layer of vibrancy and depth, echoing the complex characters and rich visual palettes that are trademarks of Anderson's style.

Sunnectar, a bright, energetic yellow, captures the optimistic and adventurous spirit of his narratives, bringing a sense of joy and wonder to the palette.

Mossdeep, an earthy green, grounds the palette with a touch of nature and subtlety, reminiscent of the understated yet meaningful backgrounds in Anderson's settings.

Skydive, a clear, confident blue, offers a sense of stability and serenity, while also providing a nod to the expansive skies often framing Anderson's meticulously composed scenes.

Cocktail Menu

Each cocktail name is a subtle nod to Anderson's distinctive storytelling and visual style. Beyond the names, the presentation of each drink echoes Anderson's meticulous attention to aesthetics, with garnishes and glassware selected to complement the thematic essence of the films. As patrons peruse the menu, they'll find themselves reminiscing about the narratives and visual feasts of Anderson's works, each sip a tribute to his artistry.
